ZZ Top Hell Raisers 2016 Tour Update

ZZ Top Hell Raisers tour in Yongstown Ohio

The most famous bearded Texan blues rockers are making their way across the country on the Hell Raisers Tour. Yes it’s none other than The Reverend Willie G leading the ZZ Top Hell Raisers Tour.

ZZ Top has had the same lineup since 1969 and have developed a sound of their own that is instantly recognizable Nationwide ( and world-wide). They’ve played together so long that a question fans often ask is do they still enjoy their work after playing and touring so many years. In a recent interview with 101 The Fox, Gibbon’s said “We still enjoy playing, and that’s paramount.”

In this day and age of bands as a ‘brand’ with interchangeable line ups, it’s a unique experience and a privilege to witness a rock band just as it was the first time I saw them in 1986 at Blossom Amphitheater near Cleveland Ohio. We caught up with them recently at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown, Ohio, and it’s not a little bit mind bending to realize that the band was formed a month or so after I was born! ZZ Top has been rockin’ as long as I’ve been livin’!

During the show Gibbons reminded us that Jimi Hendrix was a contemporary of his and played a cover of Foxy Lady with amazing effortlessness. Gibbons recently came off a solo tour in support of his first solo album Perfectomundo which dropped in November of last year. The diversity of Gibbon’s talent and his band mates is high testimony to the bands longevity and broad appeal to blues rock, pop rock, guitar rock and now ‘Afro-Cubona’ music alike.

Besides talent, Gibbons, Hill and Beard all three exude COOL factor. Although they may be aging, they must have been born with so much coolness that it’s more than enough to carry them through this lifetime, while spreading it to thousands of fans in the process. Who else can go on stage in 2016 with 2 over-sized furry white guitars and drive their fans crazy while doing it? The younger rock performers of today have to head bang, jump off their equipment and play their guitars upside down to get the same fan reaction ZZ Top gets with a few ‘coordinated leans’. Now that’s cool.

The ZZ Top Hell Raisers tour began March 18 in Oklahoma and continues through May 6 in North Carolina. Along the way, they’re scheduled to visit more than two dozen cities in the U.S. and Canada, with an emphasis on the Midwest, Pacific Northwest and American South.
